Election Results
Although early voting was up from normal, my understanding is that voting on Tuesday was a little slow.
Rather than posting all of the results I'm going to link to the official county vote so you can all look it over.
I was fairly close in what few predictions I gave, although Sheriff Betterton gathered even more votes than I had thought.
Even though he was in the crosshairs of the Conspiracy Committee of the Republican Party, Comm. Crabtree appears to have beaten both of his primary opponents by enough votes where a runoff will not be required.
Comm. Crittenden seems to be the nominee for his commissioner's seat, although Mr. Oney did post bigger numbers than expected.
The race for the Republican candidate for Sheriff looks interesting, with Mandreger edging out Fatheree by only 22 votes. It wouldn't surprise me for this race to be the one the lawsuit springs from, since Mandreger was the one the "elite" of the party was pushing.
We'll wait and see.

Who are the Republican "elite?" You mentioned in the blog, but did not explain who they are. Thanks!

I can only make assumptions about who it is exactly.
As has become clear over the last week or so there are a few people, who I erroneously assumed were the entirety of the executive committee, who have been making a lot of the calls on the direction the local party is heading.
Tongue in cheek I referred to these people as the "elite" because it's clear that not all of the people on the EC agree with what is being done but they seem to have an excessive amount of control.

These days it sure is hard to get people involved in the political process. It is very easy to say there is an "excessive amount of control" when at least there are those willing to get involved with the process. It seems that if you want to get involved...be careful or you might get labeled as having an excessive amount of control for getting too involved. This is just a respectfully submitted observation. I am sure glad to at least see people that are concerned, have convictions, and are willing to take a chance and be involved in the political process. In a Democratic County any Republican efforts will be an uphill effort all the way. It is sad that the Republicans of Upshur County can't find a common ground amongst all the issues and make a stand on that basis instead of focusing on individual shortcomings. No elected official Democrat or Republican will ever serve without his or her faults becoming obvious to the public. I also am sorry to see that in many cases being a Republican, or being a Democrat, is more important than being good neighbors and friends. I have many friends that claim one or the other affiliation, and I for one cherish the friendships much more than their political leanings. These are the good people of Upshur County. How much more could be accomplished in this County if we all treated each other as friends and neighbors...with respect and deference, overlooking each others faults and working toward common goals. I wonder...am I dreaming or is it possible?

Well said. I appreciate your comment and your feelings.
Certainly there are good and bad people of all political, and religious, persuasions.
It seems we agree that what all of our politicians need to do is concentrate on doing what is best for the people, not the party.
