The weekend for the county politicial party conventions

I understand that both the Democrats and the republicans had their county conventions this weekend.

Does anyone care to comment on what happened, how long the meetings lasted, who spoke, what was the general thrust of the meeting, all that kind of stuff?

I think the loyal readers here woudl be interested in hearing about both parties and what happened.

Well, the GOP convention went somewhat according to plan......and guess whose plan? You got it! BP's plan! There was such hostility from the county chair directed towards a couple of delegates and a commissioner it was embarrassing. It was horribly apparent that she has absolute disdain for these poor folks and the only reason I can think of for this disdain and hatred has to do with them questioning her and her resolutions/platform and as we all know, you do NOT question the GOP chair. It was also completely obvious that she stacked the delegates in her favor and the most notably being her sons and husband. At one point during the convention a couple of delegates had a question and the tone of voice when the chair addressed them was so rude, bitter and acrimonious that it made one cringe, but to protect the chair from having a debate on the subject or having to answer the questions her husband immediately made a motion to approve and one son seconded it and then that gave no option for the delegates to question or debate. Convenient, don't you think?
Now just a little while after this incident one of her 'trusted' persons got up to address the convention and the chair's tone of voice was most pleasant and accommodating......interesting, huh?
Then just before the end of the convention one of the same delegates that she was being so discourteous and uncivil to earlier rose again to speak and was once again subjected to her vicious tone of voice and attitude when all he wanted to say was how thankful and appreciative he was to all who helped with the convention, the committees who served and all the delegates present. I'm hoping everyone else saw how that made the chair look......stupid, immature and extremely rude. I applaud that delegate for having much more class and honor for saying that after he was verbally attacked just moments before. Kudos to him!

It is extremely important that there be an exchaneg of ideas, or a debate if you prefer that term, which is one of the reasosn political parties make sense. Unfortunately, the local republican party seem to be taking on the spirit of the national and state party, that is if you don't agree with them you are a traitor. This atmosphere of distrust and exclusion will hinder the ability of Upshur County to progress.

I wish people within the Repubs would step up and do what they know is right. Get rid of the nuts and trouble makers and work together to do what is best for everybody, not just the chosen few.

Thanks for the insight into the inner workings. I wonder if I can guess which Commissioner drew her ire...probably NOT the one who has been an embarassment to the party and the County. Most likely the one who can think for himself and doesn't just repeat what BP tells him to repeat.

Though I did not attend either of the county party conventions, it was very evident that Democrats turned out en masse compared to the Republicans, which gives credence to the allegation that voters in general are fed up with the Republican agenda from the national level all the way down to our local governments. I, personally, am sick and tired of the premise by Republicans that if you're not on their side that you are either unpatriotic or an outright traitor to America. There are, and always will be, at least two sides to any issue, but apparently Republicans don't believe that. It's their way or the highway, and this is extremely evident in our own county.
Having served in my local government as a city councilman for eight years, I have observed that during my tenure not once has party affiliations been an issue in respect to the administration of government. The priority has always been about taking care of the people's business, which is what ANY elected official's first responsibility is. However, when you move up to county government, you have to choose sides as either Democrat or Republican, which is where the problems begin.

I have voted Republican my whole life. I've been at the last two Republican County Conventions here in Upshur County. I've held my tongue for years, but, after finding my way to this blog and reading some of the responses I find that I am not alone. I am not alone in my distrust of the Republican County Chair. I don't know what she is, but she is confused.

I was not in court for the second 'look at me' event but I was for the first. It did not shock me that she lied under oath. Everyone in the courtroom knew that she did not have her little offices open everyday by 2PM. Have you ever tried to find her when you needed something? Bette Davis could not have played the part any better. But on the point of law, the first case came out right.

But on the second one, please, this woman demonstrated her incompetence! She would be fired in the real world and reassigned in the military. Where did she go to school? I have heard that she has not paid the County and has no intentions of doing so. But then she never paid for the County for the 06 Primary.

About the convention, this woman who claims to be all about fiscal responsibility and transparency in government did not even provide us with a copy of the platform. Who knows what we voted to pass. BUT you can bet whatever she wants whether it is what the people want or not will get in there. Mrs. Patterson would make a far better Democrat, but even they don't want her.

Just observin' was talking about her hostility toward people at the convention. This woman was out of control. The parliamentarian had to physically call her down in open session. I heard that it was worse in the committee. I don't think she even sees what an ass she is making of herself or the party. Who are her counsel? Do they not have influence with her? I bet not. She is unreasonable.

Like CARL said if you do not strictly believe what the Republicans believe--and that is according to BP--then you are unpatriotic and a traitor to America. WELL, I have served my country in more ways than being a little unpaid county chair. And BP just continues to be an embarrassment for the Republican Party.
